We’ve featured a few Quonset hut houses on here recently, and now we’re going to share the work of someone who’s been into them even before us. It’s a blogger at Clever Moderns, from Indiana, so he’s familiar with these types of agricultural (usually) buildings.
So Quonset houses, are basically an inexpensive option that includes a rounded metal dome or arch which is then attached to walls and a floor, to make a not square but rather curved-top box (if you can call it a box). You can make them in almost any size, but the bigger they get, the more structural reinforcement is needed (beams inside) to hold the roof arch up.
Anyway, back to the Clover Moderns blogger. He built one of these, and he’s been interested enough in them to design a bunch more. These show a Quonset you could build with a 24 foot foundation.
