Who doesn’t like to look at trees? Although there’s something to be said for long distant plains and horizons as well! But when you look out your window, doesn’t it make a pretty significant different if you’re just looking at the side of a neighbors house, or even a fence, versus the fresh greenery of trees or bushes, and you get to watch them become robust and verdant in spring and summer, and some turn color and fall in fall and winter. Actually, even tall grass can be nice outside your window! We often decorate our yards for this reason, because we like the look, we like gardening, and we like plants in general.
However, these types of tree-fences are necessary in some places. It’s a wind break. You need them out West on the plains in North America. I imagine in Australia and Russia as well. Although living snow fences generally need to be 30 – 60 m away from the area intended to be protected. The idea is that the snow “dumps” in this 30 – 60 m area. So i think this is more of a general windbreak.
Actually, according to an internet user with the handle PhoenixEnigma, “the PFRA used to provide free shelter belt trees on the Prairies, they were considered that essential. Unfortunately, the program was shuttered a few years ago due to budget cuts. Still, pretty much every farm house around here is surrounded by trees from them, and in many cases they are the only remaining indicator of where an abandoned farm house once was.”
