If you’re going to look at prefab and modular houses, why not also take a bit of a look at prefab homes on water — boathouses. The interesting thing about these prefabs is that, yes, you can put them in the water, which can be useful both to people who like being on the water and to people who want to save on rental costs by leasing or renting a space on a dock in a city, which can be a lot less than rent in some cities nowadays. But they can also be placed on land, like other prefabricated houses, almost anywhere.
This boat-prefab house is a wood-framed construction by DublDom systems, and has already seen a fair amount of success with its audience. It’s a modular design, meant to be assembled quickly on site, thereby reducing costs of work on site, cost of wasted materials, cost of transportation, etc.
This type of prefab house boat could be used as a vacation rental as well. Or a guest cabin for those of you who live on a lake (or maybe even a river or sheltered piece of ocean, depending on how the water is there).
This particular modular house boat is the DublDom26 model, and it floats on pontoons. It’s called the 26 because its 26 meters square (or 280 feet square). The company is a Russian one, so they use metric.
The one in the photo above is located on the Volga River about 3 hours from Moscow. Yes, a few hours out of that sprawling, flat city and it looks like green (still flat) nature and blue waters.
Because this prefab is a modular unit, and so are the pontoons, it can be modified later — bigger versions are possible.
Some features you probably noticed from the pictures: a full glass wall, which faces a covered porch. Private bedroom and bathroom near the back of the unit. Completely finished with wood, giving the prefab house a cabin aesthetic. Metal cladding for the exterior.
