Prefab home shoppers out there, you are probably aware of the fact that prefab homes are shipping in large pieces, but here’s a company that ships the entire house inside a shipping container, which is intended to save the home-owner money. Well, each piece is shipped in it’s own container of course, I mean, but that’s still a savings.
They’re called Connect Homes. They’re an eco-friendly modular house design company that builds and ships their prefabs out in a patent-pending modular system of construction.
Because each module fits inside a standard shipping container, it is relatively easy to calculate shipping costs of these modular homes by any transportation: behind a semi tractor, on a train, or by sea. Compare this with shipping large modular pieces that don’t fit as cleanly on the bed of a truck or train.
The prefab house in the picture above is Connect Homes’ “Connect 2.1” design. The standard plan (without a deck) has 2 Modules / 1 Bed, 1 Bath, 640 SF Total, 600 SF Interior. The deck module is one additional prefab module (so 3 modules total).
