Prefab homes, modular construction, we talk about these a lot. But there is still an argument for building a home — whether a tiny home or not — in the traditional post and beam stick framing method. And both prefabs and traditionally-build homes can be affordable.
In this case, we’re looking at one of the designs by Shelter Kit, a company that designs houses like these in order to keep costs low. In these houses, which can be built in sizes from 415 square feet (tiny house) to 1,565 square feet, they estimate a starting price of $17,185. It’s called the lofthouse kit. This company does quite a few houses like this one, with a traditional cabin style aesthetic and a simple construction build.
They also do a prefab house called the cape style barn house which we looked at earlier.
They generally price at between $30 and $38 per square foot of living space, although this depends on the size and options of the prefab home or barn.
For more info on Shelter Kit prefab houses, find them in our directory. By the way, if you’d like interior shots, so would we. However, the company has so far only published exteriors of its range or prefabs. We’ll update this with interior shots when some become available.
